Names / Cannabis cultivation at home: 22-year-old and EDO employee arrested, two others under investigation

Police in Velipojë uncovered a rental apartment that had been turned into a “cannabis house.” In flagrante delicto, 22-year-old Gjovalin Binaku, who was cultivating the narcotic plants, was arrested.

Also arrested was EDO employee Robert Vata for abuse of duty, while two other employees are under investigation.

At the rented apartment, police found 308 suspected cannabis plants, 85 grams of dried cannabis, 122 electrical devices used for cultivation, and 4 mobile phones.

Additionally, during checks at Robert Vata’s residence, authorities found 3 lamps and a knuckle duster.

Police statement:

Shkodër / Following consecutive operations by the DVP Shkodër structures to identify and combat criminal activities involving cannabis cultivation using lamps, the fourth phase of the police operation codenamed “Neonët 4” has been completed. This brings the total number of locations discovered and targeted under this operation to seven.

A 22-year-old from Vau i Dejës had rented an apartment in Velipojë and adapted it for cannabis cultivation using lamps; he was arrested in flagrante delicto.

One EDO employee was also arrested, while two other employees were criminally prosecuted for abuse of duty in collaboration.

Seized evidence includes 300 suspected cannabis plants, a quantity of dried cannabis, 125 electrical devices used for cultivation, 4 mobile phones, and a knuckle duster.

As part of the ongoing plan to identify and combat cannabis cultivation in enclosed spaces, based on operational intelligence, the Shkodër Police Commissariat, in cooperation with the Narcotics Investigation Section of DVP Shkodër and supported by the Operational Force and “Shqiponjat,” conducted intensive checks in closed premises to detect and combat cases of cannabis cultivation, drying, and processing for sale.

During this operation, Gj. B., 22, from Laç, Vau i Dejës, was arrested in flagrante delicto.

Additionally, R. V., 25, from Shkodër, was detained, and criminal proceedings were initiated against A. U., 50, and Gj. T., 59, both from Velipojë and EDO employees, for the criminal offense of “Abuse of duty,” committed in collaboration.

At the Velipojë apartment adapted for cannabis cultivation and drying, police seized 308 suspected cannabis plants, 85 grams of dried cannabis, 122 electrical devices for cultivation, and 4 mobile phones.

At R. V.’s residence, police also seized 3 lamps and a knuckle duster as material evidence.

Intensive work continues to fully document this criminal activity.

Procedural materials have been handed over to the Shkodër Prosecution for further action.
