Two men have been arrested in Kukës after cultivating 1,874 cannabis plants, while another son has been declared wanted.


The arrested individuals are Rrustem Ukaj, 70, and Besmir Ukaj, 34. Police have also initiated criminal proceedings against the village chief of Vlahën, while ammunition was also seized from the suspects’ home.


The cannabis plantation, consisting of 1,874 plants, was discovered by police in the administrative unit of Golaj, in the village of Vlahën. Part of the plants were destroyed by burning.


Police statement:


The operation codenamed “Clean Territory” continues against the cultivation of narcotic plants. One case of illegal cultivation has been struck in the village of Vlahën. Three individuals have been identified as suspected perpetrators (father and two sons). Two of them have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to capture the third.

Combat ammunition and 5 meters of detonating fuse were also seized, found in their residence. The village chief of Vlahën has been criminally prosecuted for abuse of office.


Police services from the Has Police Station, in cooperation with the Qafë Prush Border Police, have continued intensified controls throughout the Has municipality territory to prevent and crack down on illegal cultivation of narcotic plants.


As a result of these checks, a significant number of suspected cannabis sativa plants were found in the administrative unit of Golaj, in the village of Vlahën, and were destroyed by burning.


Following investigative actions, R. U., 70, and B. U., 34 (father and son), residents of Vlahën, were arrested as suspected perpetrators, while another son of the 70-year-old, A. U., 44, has been declared wanted. Meanwhile, materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office, and proceedings have been initiated at liberty against R. S., 58, the village chief of Vlahën, for “abuse of duty.”


Controls continue across the Kukës region to prevent and combat illegal cultivation of narcotic plants. The case files have been sent to the Kukës Court Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
