The National Food Authority (AKU) in Shkodër has blocked an additional 75 tons of livestock corn, just a few days after 25 tons of corn from the same exporting company were stopped, bringing the total seized quantity to 100 tons.
According to the Director of NFA Shkodër, Ramir Haderi, the corn imported from Serbia was blocked at the Hani i Hotit customs point for laboratory testing, in order to determine whether it contains high levels of aflatoxin B1, a toxic and carcinogenic substance that exceeds the limits allowed in Albania.
NFA Shkodër has also blocked a farm in the village of Trush, after traceability system data showed that it was being supplied with livestock corn from the same company whose products were seized at customs.
Sources from the Hani i Hotit customs office told News24 that so far around 200 tons of corn have been blocked, all of which will undergo the necessary analyses. If the presence of prohibited substances is confirmed, these goods will not be allowed to enter Albanian territory.
NFA is closely monitoring the situation and is awaiting the test results for every livestock product arriving from Serbia.
