Police appeal to drivers: Respect speed limits and do not drive under the influence, life has no return

Traffic Police have increased their presence on the roads following snowfall and low temperatures that favor frost and ice, especially in mountainous areas. The appeal comes after numerous violations recorded during the first two days of the New Year 2026, some of which ended tragically.

According to police, on road segments where the permitted speed is 80 and 90 km/h, some drivers were found traveling at speeds ranging from 171 to 216 km/h, under unsuitable conditions and with limited visibility due to darkness.

Police services have stopped and penalized drivers who pose a serious risk to their own lives and to other road users.

Police appeal for careful driving, respect for speed limits, and adjustment of speed to road conditions, as well as for not driving under the influence of alcohol.

TRAFFIC POLICE APPEAL FOR STRICT COMPLIANCE WITH ROAD TRAFFIC RULES

Due to adverse weather conditions, with snowfall in mountainous areas and temperatures that favor frost and ice, as well as the numerous violations some fatal recorded during the first two days of the New Year 2026, Traffic Police services have increased their presence on the roads, engaging all available logistical resources.

Using intelligent speed-measuring devices, including the Poliscan, as well as through alcohol testing, dozens of speed violations and cases of driving under the influence of alcohol have been detected so far.

On road sections where the permitted speed is 80 and 90 km/h, extreme violations have been recorded, with speeds ranging from 171 km/h to 216 km/h, under unsuitable weather conditions and with limited visibility due to darkness.

Police services have stopped and penalized drivers found in violation, who pose a serious risk to the lives of drivers themselves and other road users.

The Traffic Police appeal for careful driving, respect for speed limits, adjustment of speed to road and weather conditions, and for not driving under the influence of alcohol or while intoxicated.
