Police: arrests in Korçë, caught running illegal gambling activities

Korçë police crack down on illegal gambling activity through slot machines

A case of illegal gambling using slot machines has been uncovered in Korçë, following a police operation codenamed “Slot Machine”, launched in response to citizens' complaints and concerns.

Two individuals were arrested in the act, while the owner of the gambling machines has been declared wanted. Police seized 10 slot machines and 3 mobile phones as material evidence.

The operation was carried out by the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Sector in cooperation with the special unit “Shqiponja” of the Korçë Police Directorate.

During the raid, officers discovered slot machines being illegally used for gambling inside premises made available for this activity.

Those arrested are:

• Th. S., 53, resident of Korçë – charged with “unauthorized lottery organization” and “providing premises for unauthorized games”, after allegedly leasing the location where the machines were found.

• M. Sh., 34, resident of Korçë – charged with “unauthorized lottery organization”, as he was employed at the premises where the machines were installed.

  
  

In addition, D. M., 50, also from Korçë, has been declared wanted for several offenses, including:

• illegal employment

• income concealment

• tax evasion

• unauthorized lottery organization

• providing premises for unauthorized games

  
  

These individuals were caught in the act of organizing illegal gambling activities in violation of the law.

The seized items have been submitted as evidence, and the case has been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korçë for further proceedings.
