A surprise operation was carried out at Malandrino Prison by officers from the Greek Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, as part of increased inspections to prevent illegal activities within correctional facilities.
According to reports, the action was launched after information indicated that an Albanian inmate possessed illegal items in his cell.
Greek media reported that the intervention in this cell faced difficulties, as the prisoner had blocked the entrance with a piece of wood.
After the police forces intervened, the cell was forcibly opened and a full search was conducted.
During the search, officers found a knife with a black sheath and several keys, suspected to have been held illegally inside the prison. The operation extended to other cells within the penitentiary, with a total of 16 inspections carried out.
