Prices at the end of the year we left behind rose even more than in previous years. The Institute of Statistics, in its Consumer Price Index publication, reports rising inflation in December, reaching 2.3%, up from 2.1% in the same period a year earlier.
While high consumption of goods at year’s end is one of the main factors influencing price increases, in December 2025 the rise was driven mainly by rents, water and fuels, which contributed 0.96% to total inflation. Food prices contributed 0.56%, furniture 0.16%, and hotels, bars and restaurants 0.15%.
Compared to December 2024, the highest price increases within the food basket were recorded for dairy products, seafood and meat, while fruits and vegetables saw smaller increases.
INSTAT emphasizes that all groups of goods contributed to the rise in inflation, as no category reported a price decline.
The year 2025 closed with an average inflation rate of 2.2%, the same as the average inflation recorded in 2024. This level remains below the Bank of Albania’s target of 3%.
