The Special Court of Appeal Against Corruption and Organized Crime upheld on Monday the “pre-trial detention” measure for the President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta.
It is reported that former President Ilir Meta was not present at this hearing but was represented by his lawyers, Kujtim Cakrani.
Recall that Meta requested the replacement of his pre-trial detention with a lighter measure, with his lawyer arguing that there is no longer any risk of him tampering with evidence, as the investigation has been completed and the case has been sent for trial.
The former president was arrested on October 21, 2024, and has been in pre-trial detention since then under the “arrest in prison” measure.
Ilir Meta is accused of several serious criminal offenses, including passive corruption and money laundering.
