The number of thefts has increased significantly. Over 20 cases have been reported in the past two months, six of which involved fraud. This is a considerable figure relative to the population of the district.
All cases have been documented by the Fier Police and involve perpetrators of various age groups. The targets of these thefts have included pharmacies and various businesses in the city.
According to lawyer Ervis Goxhaj, the main factors driving individuals to commit these crimes are difficult economic conditions and unemployment. Some of the perpetrators are also drug users.
“Most of the people committing theft, as defined under Article 134 of the Penal Code, face economic problems and are unemployed. Some are drug users, and due to their addiction, they are driven to commit these crimes to secure income. In cases where violence or weapons are used, the law provides for harsher penalties,” said lawyer Ervis Goxhaj.
In addition to ordinary thefts, six cases of fraud-related theft have been identified. These are more sophisticated crimes, in which perpetrators obtain significant sums of money by promising legal actions that are never actually carried out.
It is particularly concerning that in some cases, the perpetrators are suspected to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the theft. This increases the risk of violence and poses a serious threat to the safety and lives of citizens who fall victim to these robberies.
