SAD / Accident on the Elbasan–Librazhd road: Car hits and kills a 7-year-old child

A tragic incident has been recorded this Monday morning in the village of Mengël, Elbasan, on the Elbasan–Librazhd road, where a 7-year-old child lost his life after being hit by a vehicle.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle was driven by a 61-year-old man identified by the initials P.B. The accident happened near a school, causing shock among local residents and witnesses.
Residents of Mengël, who witnessed the aftermath of the accident, said they immediately rushed to help the child.
“Men ran out of the café, lifted the car, and pulled the child out. They called an ambulance, but it was delayed by about 15 minutes and did not arrive. The child was taken in a private car,” said a local resident.
She added that accidents are frequent on this road segment and claimed that the driver was allegedly speeding.
“The driver was going at maximum speed. Someone saw it. He was very fast,” she said.
Meanwhile, another witness stated that the driver claimed he was traveling at only 10 km/h at the time of the accident.
“He said he was driving at 10 km/h. He said: ‘I am on a national road, I have my right, I was going at 10 km/h,’” the resident told the media.
Residents of the area have expressed concern about road safety, stressing that multiple accidents have occurred there before and that the road has become extremely dangerous for pedestrians, especially children.
Police have launched investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the tragic accident.
