SCANDAL/ Weightlifter and 3 friends under investigation for raping an intoxicated girl, athlete faces up to 10 years in prison

The Trapani Prosecutor’s Office has requested a ten-year prison sentence for Olympic weightlifting champion Antonino Pizolato, bronze medalist in Paris 2024 and Tokyo 2021. He is accused of gang rape along with three other individuals.

According to the media outlets “La Sicilia” and “Giornale di Sicilia,” the same sentence has been requested for Davide Lupo, Claudio Tutino, and Stefano Mongiovì. The case concerns an alleged incident in July 2022 in Trapani, where the victim is said to be a Finnish tourist.

Prosecutors Andrea Tarondo and Giulia Sbocchia stated that the young woman was intoxicated and that the sexual acts occurred without her consent. The trial has been postponed to January, when the defense is expected to present its arguments.
