Citizen Shpëtim Çeliku, who was serving a sentence in a high-security prison, has passed away.
He had been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his wife, who was pregnant at the time.
The tragic incident occurred on December 9, 2012, in Orikum, where the woman was found dead in an abandoned house.
The death of the convict resulted from cardiorespiratory arrest.
Statement:
Citizen Shpëtim Çeliku, who was serving a sentence in a high-security prison, passed away around 08:10 at the Central Resuscitation Unit of QSUNT, where he had been transferred for specialized treatment due to his deteriorating health. The cause of death was cardiorespiratory arrest.
Çeliku, a resident of Vlorë, had been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Vlorë District Court for the criminal offense of “Murder under aggravating circumstances,” following his arrest on December 9, 2012. At the time of his death, he had 8 years and 5 months remaining of his sentence. On October 15, 2025, he was transferred from Shkodër Prison Hospital to QSUNT, where he subsequently passed away.
Procedures have been carried out in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office, SHKBSB, the Police Commissariat, and the family.
