Just before the start of the plenary session, the police secured the Parliament due to a protest announced by the opposition, which is set to take place at the same time as the vote on SPAK’s request to lift the immunity of Socialist MP Belinda Balluku.
Large police forces have been deployed around the Parliament building to ensure order and security during the protest. A day earlier, the area around the Parliament was fenced off with metal barriers as a precautionary measure for the demonstration called by the Democratic Party.
The Democrats have stated that they will protest both outside and inside the plenary hall, prompting the authorities to implement reinforced security measures.
A police cordon has been set up outside the Parliament building, while Socialist lawmakers are expected to arrive earlier at the session to avoid clashes with opposition protesters, who are called to gather at 10:00.
At the same time that a protest is expected outside, a heated political confrontation is anticipated inside the Parliament hall between the majority and the opposition over SPAK’s request to lift Belinda Balluku’s immunity.
