A powerful winter storm has struck the northeastern United States, paralyzing life in New York City and surrounding areas, while authorities have declared a state of emergency in New Jersey.
Heavy snowfall and low temperatures have caused chaos in transportation, particularly in air traffic. According to data from FlightAware, more than 1,600 flights have been cancelled, while over 7,400 others have been delayed nationwide.
The most affected airports are John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty, and LaGuardia, which serve the New York metropolitan area. Major problems have also been reported in Boston, Chicago, and Toronto.
Among the airlines, JetBlue, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Republic Airways, and Southwest Airlines have cancelled hundreds of flights due to dangerous weather conditions.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay at home. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has called on residents to exercise maximum caution and travel only if absolutely necessary.
