Greece is experiencing an unusual situation for this time of year, as the beginning of May has brought winter-like conditions to several parts of the country. Snowfall has covered mountainous areas, while rain and strong winds have affected other regions, especially in the Aegean.
In Mount Parnitha, snow has disrupted vehicle traffic from the height of the cable car station, creating a scene more typical of January than spring. The same situation is seen in Parnassos, where roads and trees are completely covered in snow.
Winter conditions have also been recorded in the Achaia region, where the Kalavryta ski center, although closed, has been covered in snow. Temperatures in these areas have dropped to -1°C, surprising visitors who had chosen to spend the weekend in nature.
Snowfall has also been reported in Ziria, in the Corinth area, where roads have become slippery and in some sections the use of snow chains is required. Authorities in the Peloponnese have intervened to clear roads and spread salt to ease traffic.
Meanwhile, in Pelion temperatures have dropped to 0°C, while in the higher areas of Crete, towards Chania and mountain resorts, drivers are advised to move carefully and be equipped with snow chains.
According to forecasts, this situation will not last long. In the coming days, the weather is expected to improve significantly, with temperatures gradually rising and possibly reaching up to 27°C during the week, bringing back spring-like conditions.
