The “disintegration” of the “Thurje” Initiative continues after just one term won as part of a coalition in the May 11 elections and amid numerous debates about who would be the one MP in the next legislature.
Another member has left Endri Shabani’s party.
Klajdi Pllaha, a member of the “Thurje” Initiative, announced his departure from the party in a social media post. In his statement, Pllaha said he chose to leave because idealism no longer exists in “Thurje” or has been overshadowed by personal egos.
He added that he will continue his engagement in the municipal council of Korçë Municipality, but from now on, he will no longer represent any political party – he will serve as an independent.
Full statement:
A wise friend once told me: “For the same reason you join a party, for that same reason you also leave it.”
In 2021, when I first got involved with the “Thurje” Initiative, I didn’t know it very well, but I joined with idealism because I believed in the integrity of young people who wanted to change the system. I represented it in three election campaigns, improving results each time and maturing politically, without ever losing my idealism and integrity.
Now the time has come to part ways with this movement, because the events of the last elections showed that this idealism has been lost within the party – or at best, has been overshadowed by personal ego or political immaturity. Perhaps one day, a deep and sincere reflection will come from the two leaders of the coalition. But for now, I can no longer represent the “Thurje” Initiative.
Still, I have no regrets for these five years of engagement. First, because they allowed me to meet other idealistic young people, who unfortunately, one by one, have also left “Thurje.” Second, because throughout this time, I never felt included in the party’s decision-making, so I was always closer to the citizens of Korçë than to the party itself. And I’m confident that all those who voted for me placed their trust in Klajdi, not in the party.
My political involvement will continue, just as it has for the past two years in the Municipal Council – to be the voice of the people of Korçë – now officially as an independent, just as I have always felt.
And despite everything, I remain positive, believing that idealistic and principled young people will never be lacking in Albania – not even in politics. Meanwhile, let’s continue strengthening the voice of the citizens.
