A 58-year-old woman, Ioanna Tzouma, has lost her life to the H1N1 flu in Greece, marking the first victim of this strain in several years. The victim passed away on Wednesday morning in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Volos Hospital, where she had been hospitalized for days.
Ioanna Tzouma, 58, a former private employee in the tourism sector, initially showed mild symptoms, such as a low-grade fever, which persisted despite being mild. However, after staying home for several days, her health deteriorated dramatically, and she was urgently taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her condition.
Doctors diagnosed her with an H1N1 flu infection. Despite immediate efforts to intubate her and provide ICU care, her health deteriorated to multi-organ failure, and she could not survive.
It was also reported that a 70-year-old man with the same diagnosis had been admitted to the ICU but managed to overcome the danger and recover.
This incident has raised concerns among health authorities, who are urging citizens to continue timely vaccinations against the flu.
