All teachers in the pre-university education system will be required to follow a set of new rules of conduct, applicable both inside and outside the school environment. The Ministry of Education has introduced the new Code of Ethics, a document designed to establish clear standards for integrity, responsibility, and professional behavior among teaching staff, including their use of social media.
According to this Code, teachers must be careful with their public appearances. Any post, photo, or video shared online must comply with professional ethics and not undermine the image of the educator. This rule has been introduced to ensure that the teacher’s reputation remains respected in the eyes of students, parents, and the community.
“Best European practices show that a clear ethical framework helps teachers face professional challenges with integrity, especially in an educational reality that is rapidly changing due to technology. A teacher must always preserve their role as an educational model, encourage responsible behavior, and guide students in the safe use of online platforms,” the Ministry of Education’s document states.
Special attention has also been given to teachers’ appearance at work. Teachers are expected to be neat, clean, and professionally dressed, avoiding clothing and accessories that stand out or may distract students during lessons.
“Jewelry and additional clothing elements should be simple and appropriate for the school environment, avoiding large, brightly colored, or noisy accessories, as these can disrupt attention in the classroom,” the Code of Ethics further specifies.
The new document also addresses teacher-student relationships. Article 5 clearly states that teachers must respect the privacy and dignity of every child, serve as role models, and promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts. In addition, more experienced teachers have a moral and professional duty to support younger colleagues, guiding them through the daily challenges of the educational process.
This Code is expected to come into force in the upcoming school year and is seen as a step toward strengthening educational standards in Albania, in line with the most advanced European models.
