The serious accident worsens the toll, three victims from the collision

The toll of the tragic accident that occurred on Sunday evening, March 22, 2026, on the Vlora river road has risen to three victims.

Initially, as a result of a head-on collision between two vehicles, the two drivers lost their lives at the scene: Adi Alushaj, around 30 years old, and Esat Brahimaj, around 40 years old. Meanwhile, a passenger in one of the vehicles, 40-year-old Andrea Begaj, was pulled from the car in critical condition and urgently transported to the hospital, but did not survive his injuries and passed away a few hours later.

The accident involved a “Benz” vehicle with license plate FR4044C and a “Ford” vehicle with license plate AB309FL. The collision was extremely strong, causing severe damage and almost complete destruction of the front parts of both vehicles.

Immediately after the incident, police forces, fire services, and ambulances arrived at the scene, working to extract the individuals from the vehicles and provide first aid. For several hours, the area was cordoned off and traffic was temporarily blocked to allow emergency services to intervene and for investigative procedures to be carried out.

The investigative team has begun work to fully clarify the circumstances of the accident. Preliminary suspicions are related to factors such as high speed, improper overtaking, or loss of control by one of the vehicles, but the exact cause is expected to be determined by official investigations.

This serious accident once again draws attention to road safety on national routes, especially in rural areas, where lack of lighting, insufficient signage, and high speed remain among the main risk factors for drivers.
