A tragic incident has occurred in an Albanian family in Italy, where four of its members lost their lives as a result of a gas leak. Specifically, the event took place on Wednesday evening (February 4) under circumstances that are still unclear.
According to Italian media reports, the gas leak is suspected to have been caused by a malfunction in the home’s boiler. The victims were the 48-year-old father, the 43-year-old mother, and their two children, aged 22 and 15. Meanwhile, a fifth person, the head of the family’s brother, was injured and is in hospital.
Two carabinieri officers who arrived at the scene to provide first aid also suffered mild intoxication, but are out of danger. According to Italian media, the tragic event happened around dinner time, as rescue teams found the table set, indicating that the family had been preparing to eat.
It is reported that the carabinieri were alerted by the brother of the head of the family, after receiving no response despite repeated knocking at the three-storey house, forcing them to break the door down.
Inside the house, law enforcement encountered a dramatic scene, with four lifeless bodies lying on the floor. Moments later, the fifth family member also lost consciousness due to carbon monoxide, in front of the carabinieri, who managed to exit the house in time and transport the injured person to the hospital.
