Two businesses found selling smuggled car parts from the United Kingdom, 68 cars seized, owner arrested

In Dimal, two businesses were uncovered where smuggled car parts, mainly from the United Kingdom, were being dismantled and sold.

As a result of inspections, operational and investigative work focused on identifying and addressing economic activities conducted informally and/or with smuggled products, specialists from the Economic-Financial Crime Investigation Section, in cooperation with the Special Operational Force and in coordination with the Berat Prosecutor’s Office, concluded the operation codenamed “Çmontimi” (“Dismantling”).

During the operation, 30-year-old P.D., resident of Dimal, was arrested in flagrante, while 31-year-old R.S., resident of Kuçovë, was declared wanted.

Inspections of their businesses (vehicle service centers/shops selling vehicle parts) revealed 55 and 13 vehicles (partially dismantled), respectively, for which no purchase or customs documents were available.

The vehicles are suspected to be smuggled, mainly from the United Kingdom. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend R.S. The procedural materials have been referred to the Berat Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
