On Wednesday, July 23, the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) formally charged Mayor Erion Veliaj, who has been held in Durrës prison since February 10.

He faces a total of 13 charges for several serious criminal offenses including corruption, concealment of assets, money laundering, and bringing prohibited items into the prison.

Following SPAK’s announcement of the charges against Veliaj, his wife Ajola Xoxa, their collaborators, and other individuals involved in the case, key evidence began to emerge.

During the week, the names of those who betrayed their “boss” by cooperating with justice have been revealed.

Several names come through his wife Ajola Xoxa, her most loyal associates.

The first to turn “repentant” was Adela Kondakçiu, Ajola Xoxa’s former financial officer, who has knowledge of many invoices and schemes involving Ajola’s NGOs—facts and evidence that have assisted SPAK in its investigations.

Kondakçiu is one of the key figures discussed in the investigation. According to disclosed communications, she is aware of almost everything concerning the fake invoices and schemes used by Ajola Xoxa’s NGOs.

The second person who betrayed the “boss” is Gentian Sula, who was initially reported to be the guarantor for the 115,000 euros. However, as media and CNA reported, he changed his testimony and stated that everything was orchestrated by Ajola Xoxa.

The third is the wife of Veliaj’s friend Elman Abule, Marisa Nito Abule. She provided important testimony regarding an apartment seized by the Serious Crimes Court (GJKKO) on May 22 this year.

In her testimony, Marisa Nito Abule stated that Ajola told her she had limited space in her home and wanted the third floor—specifically the apartment seized by SPAK—where it was claimed that two floors belonged solely to Erion Veliaj, while the third floor had previously been used by actor Gaz Paja, then by other persons, and was not owned by Veliaj.
