Sweden has started its 2026 World Cup Group F campaign in spectacular fashion, defeating Tunisia with a convincing 5–1 scoreline.
The Scandinavians took control of the match immediately thanks to Yasin Ayari, who scored a stunning long-range goal in the 6th minute. The Brighton midfielder did not celebrate out of respect for Tunisia, the birthplace of his father and the national team he could have represented.
Just before halftime, Alexander Isak doubled the lead. After a combination with Viktor Gyökeres, the Swedish forward covered several meters with the ball and finished precisely for 2–0 in the 40th minute.
Tunisia briefly got back into the game through Omar Rekik, who scored with a header in the 43rd minute, narrowing the gap to 2–1 before the break.
However, Sweden did not allow any surprises. In the 59th minute, it was Viktor Gyökeres who found the net after an assist from Isak, restoring the two-goal cushion.
In the 84th minute, substitute Mattias Svanberg scored just 18 seconds after coming onto the pitch. The goal was initially disallowed for offside, but after a lengthy VAR review, it was confirmed as valid.
In the final seconds of the match, Ayari sealed his outstanding performance with another spectacular long-range goal, giving Sweden a dominant finish to their victory.
