Last evening, a 29-year-old man arrived at the emergency department of Korçë Hospital with injuries to various parts of his body.

According to information confirmed by police, the young man was allegedly assaulted around 13 days ago in the city of Chalkida (Kalkidhë), Greece, by officers of the Greek police.

Sources indicate that the 29-year-old, a resident of Maliq, was detained and subsequently beaten after being mistakenly identified as the perpetrator of a criminal offense. Following checks carried out by the Greek authorities, he was found to be innocent.

The young man, identified as Maldin Maxhari, filed a complaint with Greek police regarding the alleged abuse. He was later deported from Greek territory and returned to Albania through the Kakavija border crossing.

Due to his health condition and the injuries he sustained, he sought medical treatment at Korçë Hospital, where he is currently receiving the necessary care. It is suspected that the 29-year-old suffered injuries to his ribs and spleen.

Meanwhile, police in southeastern Albania have taken his statement, while authorities are expected to determine what procedures will be followed next, given that the incident occurred outside Albanian territory.
