Zhani Ziçishti turns 85 today / Happy birthday, Master of the Stage!

Today is the birthday of actor Zhani Ziçishti, to whom we wish a long life and good health!

Zhani Petro (Ziçishti) (1940), actor, was born in Korçë on May 31. He graduated from the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Higher School of Acting in 1964 and immediately began working as an actor at the “A. Z. Çajupi” Theatre, where he remained until 1994, when he emigrated to Greece.

He performed in over 70 roles on that stage, many of them leading and significant roles. Along with his generation, he introduced a new style of interpretation characterized by truthful action, naturalness, soft and psychological tones, the precision of character intent, and a rejection of theatricality and over-dramatized speech.

Such qualities became part of the authenticity he brought to characters in plays like “The Girl Without a Dowry,” “The White Siege,” “The House in the Alley,” “The Literature Teacher,” “The Accused City,” “The Angels of Hell,” “The Threepenny Opera,” “The Miser,” and “Othello.” He also played over 15 supporting roles.

He began with the role of the teacher in the film “River of Light” and went on to portray several well-crafted characters, such as Gregor Graf in “Flag in the Waves” (1977
