Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji shares his experience in prison after conviction for false accusation.
Ervin Salianji, who served his sentence in Fier Prison, revealed for the first time details about his time behind bars in a recent interview.
Salianji explained that during his stay there, after 18 years without playing, he resumed playing football and developed close relationships with some of the inmates.
He emphasized that “prisoners are not black sheep,” drawing a distinction between those who have committed serious crimes and those incarcerated for human mistakes.
“In prison, you miss freedom and are forced to stay in one place for a long time. There was a lot of dampness, but I had the support of my family and friends,” Salianji said.
He added that many of his fellow inmates are ordinary people seeking a chance for rehabilitation.
His story was not only personal but also political, as he described the court’s decision as a dangerous precedent for all citizens.
Salianji also criticized Prime Minister Rama’s reaction, interpreting it as a direct political interference in a judicial matter that, according to him, has broad implications for citizens’ rights.
