51 tons of corn intended for animal feed, coming from Serbia, have been blocked after testing positive for aflatoxin.

This quantity is part of 15 trucks of corn blocked at Hani i Hotit, where over 500 tons in total are being analyzed.

Aflatoxin B1 is considered one of the most dangerous in the class of mycotoxins, as it is suspected of causing cancer.

“The National Food Authority, in continuation of transparency and public information and in implementation of the legislation in force, announces that based on the Annual Plan of Official Controls, at the Border Inspection Point of Hani i Hotit it carried out sampling on two shipments of corn for animal feed, originating from Serbia, which after laboratory analysis were confirmed to contain Aflatoxin B1.

We inform that one of the shipments has been returned to the country of origin, while the other shipment has been blocked at the operator’s premises, destined for destruction,” the AFA statement said.
