Born in Pogradec in 1892, Jani Basho received his early education in Manastir and later, in 1914, earned the right to study at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Vienna.
After completing his studies, Dr. Basho returned to Albania, where he made an extraordinary contribution to the field of medicine. In 1931, under his initiative and leadership, an obstetric clinic was built in Tirana, the first of its kind in the country.
Throughout his career, he held important positions such as Director of the Military Hospital, General Chief of Health, and Director of Tirana Hospital. Beyond his medical engagements, Basho was an active intellectual, serving as chairman of the student association “Albania” and editor-in-chief of the magazine “Djalëria,” influencing the cultural and patriotic mindset of Albanian youth.
Dr. Jani Basho passed away in February 1957 in Tirana, leaving behind a significant legacy in the history of Albanian medicine.
