A 51-year-old man is under investigation for attempting to take over €22,000 out of Albania without declaring it

A 51-year-old man has been criminally charged after being caught at the Kakavijë Border Point attempting to take a large sum of money out of Albania without declaring it according to the law.
During a routine check, the Border Police inspected the bag of the man, identified by the initials F.S., a resident of Greece, and found €20,530 and 1,800,000 Albanian lek, which had not been declared.
The police report states that the undeclared money has been confiscated.
Following procedural actions, the Crime Investigation Specialists of DVKM Gjirokastër referred the case to the Prosecutor’s Office, which initiated legal proceedings against F.S., 51, under the offense “Failure to declare money and valuables at the border.” The confiscated cash will be kept as material evidence.
The case files have been transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Gjirokastër First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction for further action.
