A drunk police officer arrested after hitting a woman with a car and fleeing the scene

The Police Oversight Agency has arrested in flagrante a police officer, Inspector D.G., serving as a Service Officer with the Ceremonial Unit at the General Directorate of the State Police, suspected of committing the criminal offenses of “Irregular Driving” and “Leaving the Scene of an Accident,” provided for under Articles 291 and 273 of the Criminal Code.

His arrest was carried out after, on the evening of yesterday at around 20:25, in the area known as “Rruga e Dibrës,” he was involved in an accident as a result of which citizen E.M. sustained injuries and was transported to the Trauma Hospital, where she is out of danger for her life.

The police officer left the scene of the accident and was later apprehended near the Babrru Bridge.

Verification with a breath alcohol test resulted in a level of 1.03 mg/l.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecution Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana.
