A woman survives 54 hours trapped in a snake- and mosquito-filled well in China
An unbelievable adventure with a happy ending is making headlines in China, after a woman was rescued following 54 hours trapped in an abandoned well.
The 48-year-old woman, surnamed Qin, was in a forested area of Quanzhou city in Fujian province on September 13 when she suddenly fell to the bottom of an old well.
Its unusual structure – a narrow entrance and a wider base – trapped her, leaving no way to climb out on her own.
Despite the ordeal, Qin survived using her swimming skills. She found a rock to lean on and carefully dislodged three more stones to create makeshift footholds.
She spent many hours clinging to the wall in darkness, enduring mosquito bites and the presence of water snakes, one of which bit her but caused no serious injury. Her family reported her missing on September 14.
