Abuses in the pharmaceutical market, medicines kept in humidity

Here Abuses in the country's pharmaceutical market continue. The State Health Inspectorate, in last year’s annual report, highlights several important issues directly related to citizens’ health. According to the report, during sanitary inspections in pharmaceutical trading entities (pharmacies and pharmaceutical warehouses), deficiencies were found such as the lack of the hygienic-sanitary Approval Act.

Furthermore, in many cases it is unclear what happens to expired medications, as there are no contracts with licensed entities for their disposal. Even more concerning is the presence of humidity in some pharmaceutical environments, putting at risk the quality and safety of medicines offered to citizens.

For these violations, during 2024 the Inspectorate imposed:

1 administrative measure (fine in lek)

1 interim decision for taking urgent action

14 warnings.

Of these warnings, 13 belong to the Fier district and 1 to Tirana. The fine was imposed on one of the pharmacies in the Fier district, while the urgent measure was taken against a pharmaceutical entity in Durrës.
