A discovery of significant historical and scientific importance is coming to light in the village of Lin, in the municipality of Pogradec. It concerns the Lin pile-dwelling settlement, now confirmed by the University of Bern as one of the oldest settlements in Europe, dating back more than 8,000 years.

As part of the ongoing archaeological work at this extraordinary site, the Mayor of Pogradec, Mr. Ilir Xhakolli, held an important meeting with Professor Adrian Anastasi and Swiss archaeologist Albert Hafner, who are leading the research expedition.

During the meeting, they discussed the progress of the excavations, the latest findings, and concrete possibilities for transforming this heritage into a key destination for cultural tourism and scientific research.

The municipality’s goal is to ensure that this ancient settlement does not remain solely an academic discovery but is developed into an open center for both visitors and researchers, offering a unique experience at the heart of European civilization’s history.

To this end, an information center will soon be established near the archaeological site, serving as a guide point for both local and international tourists. Visitors will have the opportunity to closely explore the expedition’s discoveries, learn about the living techniques of the early inhabitants, and appreciate the unique cultural value this settlement holds.

This project is expected to be a major step toward promoting archaeological tourism and a valuable opportunity for sustainable development in the Pogradec area.
