This Monday, the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) publicly unveiled, for the first time, the new project for constructing an alternative segment on the Librazhd–Prrenjas route, which has been blocked for several days due to a road collapse.
In a video shared by ARA, it was announced that emergency measures have been planned and approved to address the situation and restore traffic as quickly as possible.
The project foresees the construction of a 1.3-kilometer alternative segment along the Shkumbin River, parallel to the existing railway line, avoiding the damaged and most hazardous parts of the route.
Several important engineering actions have been undertaken for this segment, including temporarily diverting the river flow to protect road infrastructure, repairing the damaged bridge, and interventions to relieve pressure on the roadbed affected by landslides.
According to preliminary proposals, the alternative road will provide a temporary solution for vehicle traffic, while the Albanian Geological Service is conducting analyses to evaluate the feasibility of reconstructing the damaged segment.
Meanwhile, in the area known as “Arrat e Gurrës,” work continues to remove hundreds of cubic meters of soil and debris from the damaged slope, aiming to stabilize the mass and restore the balance of the embankments.
Additionally, in coordination with the Transmission System Operator (OST) and the Distribution System Operator (OSSH), high- and low-voltage power poles affected by the landslide have been dismantled. The works are also coordinated with the State Police to ensure safety for vehicles moving through the area.
It is recalled that the Librazhd–Prrenjas route has been closed since February 1, causing significant difficulties in road traffic and forcing detours via alternative routes. Authorities state that work will continue intensively to restore normal conditions as soon as possible on this important road segment.
