According to updated information from MZSH-Kolonjë and the regional structure of the Protected Areas Agency, the fire that broke out on the afternoon of August 11 toward the Germenj Natural Park, in the territory of Kolonjë municipality, has not expanded since last night but remains active and risky, as the wind is favoring it.

It is hoped that it will not penetrate into the crown area of the protected zone, and forces are working to create a prevention perimeter. Around 40 personnel are currently on the ground.

The municipal service has deployed an excavator to open roads so that firefighting vehicles can get as close as possible to the affected area. However, since it is a border area, there are many mines, and occasional explosions can be heard, posing a danger to personnel and preventing them from approaching too close to the fire’s perimeter.

At the same time, the bomb disposal team that arrived last night from Tirana is heading to the scene to dismantle some of the mines found in the area.

Meanwhile, the Albanian side is also in communication with the Greek side for coordinated action.
