The European RASFF system has reported that a shipment of “pistachio paste” or pistachio butter from Albania was stopped at the border due to high levels of aflatoxin.
Another shipment of Albanian products was blocked by Croatian authorities because of the presence of this toxic substance.
Samples from this shipment were taken by Croatian authorities on September 8, and after testing confirmed high levels of the toxin, the shipment was destroyed.
The notification in the European system was made on October 3, so that other countries receiving the product could also halt its sale and use.
On October 1, Croatia returned a shipment of hot peppers because they tested above the legal limits for pesticides. According to the report, three types of pesticides exceeded the limits: Flonicamid, Chlorfenapyr, and Tebufenpyrad.
