Following the order of the Chief Inspector for the removal of illegal structures from public spaces along the road axes, the National Inspectorate for the Protection of Territory (IKMT) in Korçë, in cooperation with the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH), has established working groups to monitor the situation on the ground.

According to the regional director of NIPT Korçë, Edi Bitri, approximately 370 entities have so far been identified as illegally occupying public spaces, posing a risk to both road and national security. These entities mainly include residential fences, fuel station signs, and businesses related to vehicle services or dismantled cars.

The entities have been warned to voluntarily vacate the spaces by July 31, in accordance with deadlines set by the government. So far, there has been an increased level of awareness among citizens and businesses to comply with the law.

As of August 1, inspection teams have resumed monitoring to verify whether the necessary actions have been taken to dismantle the structures. In cases where no measures have been taken, NIPT will initiate legal penalties, including fines and forced intervention for the demolition of illegal structures.

The NIPT Korçë director emphasized that no administrative measures have been taken yet, as the verification process is still ongoing. However, he pointed out that a lack of workforce has caused some delays in interventions.

The distribution of the identified entities by road axis is as follows:

Korçë – Qafë Thanë axis: 239 entities

122 residential fences

117 businesses

Korçë – Kapshticë axis: 74 entities

21 residences

53 businesses

Korçë – Leskovik axis: 48 entities

26 residences

22 businesses

Libonik – Rëmbec – Plasë axis: 16 entities

9 residences

7 businesses

NIPT will continue with intensive inspections in the coming days and calls for cooperation from citizens and businesses in respecting the law and road safety.
