Entered the Osum River to help RIU find the body of the 42-year-old and got trapped, the 22-year-old is rescued

The 22-year-old who became trapped after entering the Osum River to assist RENEA during the search for the body of 45-year-old Ilir Kurti has been rescued.

The young man, Xhuljano Kaloti, had been stuck in the water since Saturday at noon, and initial attempts to extract him from the area had failed.

Fortunately, on Sunday morning he was rescued. He is in good health, conscious, and currently under the care of a medical team.

“In support of local structures, the National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC) coordinated the search-and-rescue operation, which was carried out thanks to the close cooperation between mountaineers, volunteers, RIU forces, and the Armed Forces, under extremely challenging conditions. The operation continues without interruption in the search for the other person reported missing,” the statement said.

The Osum Canyon is approximately 12 kilometers long and reaches depths of up to 90 meters. At such water flow levels, intervention by untrained individuals poses a maximum risk.
