Record seasonal temperatures were recorded in southwestern France, with the mercury exceeding 25°C and approaching 30°C today; the weather felt more like May.
In Orthez, near the Pyrenees, the thermometer reached 28.3°C. This is the highest temperature ever recorded in February at this meteorological station, which was inaugurated in 1994. The previous record in the area was 27.1°C, set in February 2020.
In Biarritz, a maximum temperature of 27°C was recorded, 14 degrees above the seasonal norm, in Pau 26°C, in Mont-de-Marsan 25°C, and in Toulouse 22°C.
In southwestern France, temperatures, already high for this time of year, rose even further and resembled those of May, according to the national meteorological service, Météo France.
Experts emphasize that exceptionally high winter temperatures are becoming an increasingly frequent phenomenon due to climate change.
