The massive floods that hit Durrës have caused a tragedy, with the first victim found in the Plepave area. A person suspected of drowning was found lifeless after days of intensive search efforts.

The victim’s identity has been confirmed as Astrit Hysenaj, 54, who had lost contact with his family on Tuesday when the region was struck by severe flooding.

On Wednesday, his cousin reported his disappearance to the police and requested help in locating him. After several hours of searching, his body was found lifeless, suspected to have been swept away by the strong water currents.

“In continuation of the information previously provided regarding the disappearance from his residence of citizen A. H., 54, we inform that after searches conducted by police services and the divers of AENU, the body of the 54-year-old was found in a drainage canal near the former Military Unit. It is preliminarily suspected that A. H. was carried away by the water flow.

The investigative team is on site and is working under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify and document the circumstances of the case,” the police announced.
