Two days before the new Parliament, elected in the May 11 elections, convenes for the first time, the Democratic Party has called a leadership meeting today at 13:00, where the political line that the opposition will follow in this legislature is expected to be determined. According to the announcement released by the PD press office, the meeting will open with a speech by the opposition leader, Sali Berisha, who is also expected to signal the first indications of the parliamentary group’s strategy.

The PD leadership consists of 18 members elected by the National Council and 15 ex officio members, who earned this right based on positions held in parliamentary committees during the previous legislature. However, according to TCH sources, four of the ex officio members, who did not secure a parliamentary mandate in the last elections, were not invited to today’s meeting. These are Helidon Bushati, Dhurata Çupi, Zheni Gjergji, and Ferdinand Xhaferraj.

Their exclusion is seen as a clear signal that the Democratic Party is entering a new phase of internal organization, prioritizing the new parliamentary structure and those who will play an active role on the Parliament floor. This development is expected to spark debate about how the opposition is being restructured and about the balance between the old figures and those expected to take on more responsibilities in the upcoming legislature.

The meeting is expected to discuss not only the opposition’s strategy in Parliament but also the functioning of the parliamentary group, the stance toward the government, and the forms of political action both inside and outside the Parliament.
