Residents of the village of Gjonbabas, Administrative Unit Lekas, Korçë, reported on the show Fiks Fare serious issues with electricity and road infrastructure, raising concerns about voltage fluctuations, a worn-out electrical network, and ongoing safety risks.
The Fiks Fare team traveled to Gjonbabas, about five hours from Tirana, where the village’s deteriorated road is immediately noticeable, making travel difficult and further isolating the area. But the problems go beyond the roads.
Residents complain that, even though they have electricity, the voltage fluctuates constantly, damaging household appliances and posing safety hazards. In this village, the electrical network has not been upgraded since the country was electrified. This is evident from the wooden poles, installed decades ago, which still support the electrical lines despite being worn and dangerous. “The lights turn on and off, the washing machine sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t. That pole is barely holding up the wires, it could fall on us,” said one resident, worried about the risks of the electrical network. Others report that the problems are even worse for those who need three-phase electricity.
Similar situations are reported in nearby villages such as Marjani, where residents also complain about impassable roads and unstable electricity. When asked by Fiks Fare, the Administrator of the Lekas Administrative Unit, Panajot Hysen, admitted that the problem is well known and that official requests have been made for interventions, including replacing the transformer, renewing the poles, and repairing the road, which has not received serious investment for decades.
Meanwhile, the director of EDO Korçë, Artur Qeramixhi, confirmed that a new transformer was ready and would be installed immediately. As promised, the transformer was installed within 24 hours, improving electricity supply in the village.
However, residents emphasize that this is only an emergency solution and call for a complete overhaul of the electrical network, replacement of worn poles, repair of hanging wires, and, above all, serious investment in the road, which they say has been neglected for over 30 years.
