Operation “Imaging” concluded after a 4-month investigation in cooperation with the Fier Prosecutor’s Office.


A radiologist at the Fier Regional Hospital has been arrested following a months-long investigation conducted by specialists from the Section for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes of the Fier Police Directorate, in cooperation with the Fier Prosecutor’s Office. The police operation, codenamed “Imaging”, was finalized after four months of investigations within criminal proceeding no. 929, registered on July 1, 2025, for the criminal offenses of “Abuse of office” and “Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions.”


According to the Police, citizen Gëzim Taullai, 66 years old, resident of Fier and employed as a radiologist at the regional hospital, was caught in the act receiving a sum of money from a patient in exchange for performing an abdominal ultrasound.


Investigations also revealed that the doctor abused his position by performing consultations at two private clinics in the city during his official working hours at the public hospital.


During a search of his home, police found and seized as material evidence the amount of 1,857,000 new lek, 39,155 euros, 2,370 pounds, and 75 dollars, along with the money taken from the patient.


The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Fier for further legal action.
