Police officers who saved a 59-year-old woman, who attempted to end her life by jumping into the Buna River, recounted the moments when they faced danger and prevented the serious incident.
According to the officers, the alarm was raised by a citizen who informed the operations room that a person was drowning in the Buna River. Immediately after the report, patrols were organized to cover as wide an area as possible along the river.
One of the officers, Erixhon Senko, originally from Pogradec, described the dramatic moment, emphasizing that he did not consider the risk at all.
“I saw the woman in the water and didn’t think twice. I immediately jumped in to save her. I didn’t take the risk into account,” he said.
The officers managed to pull the woman out of the water in an unconscious state and provided first aid at the scene, covering her to keep her warm until the ambulance arrived.
“Humanity is part of our job. We didn’t think about anything else, only about saving her life,” they stated.
The 59-year-old woman was then transported to the hospital in Shkodra, where, according to doctors, she is out of danger and in stable condition.
