In Korçë, 25% of doctors are elderly. Medicine, the profession that doesn’t let you retire

The shortage of doctors, especially in rural areas or small municipalities, has forced many physicians who are already of retirement age to continue working in order to fill the gaps.

A similar situation exists at the local health care unit in Korçë, where the head of the unit himself provides the number of retired doctors who are still serving in health centers.

Petriti is one of the doctors who continues to work, even though he reached retirement age four years ago. While he is not afraid of the work, he requests that at least they should not be forced every six months to go to Tirana to renew their contracts.

It seems that even those doctors who are approaching retirement in the Korçë area, who are numerous, will continue to serve, while covering services with younger doctors remains one of the main challenges of the country’s healthcare system.
