Is the government ignoring the price crisis? Civici: A support package will come in June

A number of governments, both in small and large countries, have taken concrete measures to cushion the impact of rising prices. Specifically, countries in the region have responded in several directions.
In Albania, the government reduced the excise duty on fuel for only five days, when the price exceeded 220 lek per liter. But is the government ignoring the price crisis?
“This war does not seem to be ending. In these conditions, with this new reality, the government will be forced to draft a support package. I am convinced it will be ready in June. No matter how much the government delays this package, it will be forced to design it, because the effects are escalating and, above all, there is no turning back on prices. It seems as if we are facing a new world order, where at a minimum the price of fuel is not expected to go down,” said Enio Civici, an economics expert on Vizion Plus.
According to Civici, many countries have taken combined measures, and therefore the government should focus on two directions.
“A single reduction in excise duty when the price exceeds 220 lek is not enough. I believe there should be a new tax policy, either temporary reductions or suspensions, combined with a support package for vulnerable sectors or families. One measure alone is not enough,” Civici said.
Economist Enio Civici also believes that the agricultural sector should be a priority, and he even suggests that a fuel subsidy scheme without taxes will return in another form, although its exact formula has not yet been defined.
