A 30-year-old man surrendered today in Kalamata in connection with the double murder in Finikounda at the beginning of October. According to foreign media, an international arrest warrant had been issued for him, and he is accused of complicity.
It is recalled that a few days ago, the nephew of the 68-year-old owner of the campsite in Finikounda and a businessman friend of his from Athens were arrested following arrest warrants issued by the investigating officer as part of the probe into the double murder.
Both are accused of incitement to commit the crime.
Media reports say that authorities had been searching for the 30-year-old, who is a friend of the arrested businessman, as he is suspected of being involved in the case.
This is the fifth arrest, as in addition to the nephew and his friend, two other individuals have also been arrested in connection with the crime.
The nephew denies any wrongdoing. The nephew and his friend have been remanded in custody. During his defense, the nephew reiterated what he had stated in his previous testimonies as a witness, denying any involvement.
He declared himself innocent, claimed that he wanted the case to be clarified, and said he had cooperated with the authorities from the beginning, describing the allegations against him as coincidental.
For his part, the businessman from Athens, a close friend of the nephew and co-manager of the campsite, insisted on his innocence, stressing that he had been wrongly accused and repeating what he had stated from the outset.
