Following the serious incident that occurred at the Tirana Court of Appeal, where a judge was killed, members of parliament have begun inspections of courts across the country to verify security measures.
In this context, a group of MPs carried out a visit to the premises of the Korçë Court.
Socialist Party MP Bledi Como stated that the inspection comes after a request from the High Judicial Council, with the aim of increasing security in justice institutions and preventing similar incidents in the future.
“After the incident that occurred at the Tirana Court of Appeal, we held several meetings with the relevant institutions and went out into the field to concretely assess security conditions in the courts. Afterwards, the issue will be addressed in a parliamentary committee together with the independent institutions of the justice system, including the High Judicial Council and the High Prosecutorial Council,” Como said.
He emphasized that the MPs’ focus is on improving physical, infrastructural, and technological security in the courts, clarifying that this does not involve monitoring judicial decision-making.
According to Como, the Korçë Court is one of the best courts in the Republic of Albania in terms of conditions and work organization, and is considered a model for other justice institutions that have not yet met these standards.
At the conclusion of the inspections, a final report will be drafted and is expected to be submitted to the responsible institutions and to Parliament, with the aim of expanding cooperation and finding a final solution to increase security in all judicial and prosecutorial premises.
