Korçë / Conversations between police officers placing bets revealed: “Do you have any sure match?”

The Police Oversight Agency yesterday executed security measures against six police officers and one civilian, as part of the operation “Last Bet”, carried out in the regions of Korçë and Elbasan.

The officers, abusing the powers of their positions and in cooperation with one another, organized and facilitated the operation of illegal lotteries / sports betting. Specifically, the measures were executed against:

Sub-Commissioner R.T., serving as Crime Specialist at the Manëz Police Station, Durrës Police Commissariat;

Inspector E.K., serving as Assistant Specialist / Controller at the Morinë Border Police Station, under the Kukës Local Directorate of Border and Migration;

Commissioner D.S., serving as Head of the Section for the Investigation of High-Volume Crimes at the Devoll Police Commissariat;

Sub-Commissioner A.M., serving as Shift Supervisor at the Morinë Border Police Station, under the Kukës Local Directorate of Border and Migration;

Inspector G.B., serving as Assistant Specialist / Controller at the Morinë Border Police Station, under the Kukës Local Directorate of Border and Migration;

Civilian I.T., resident in Tirana;

Inspector E.D., serving as an Operational Service Officer with the Special Tactical Intervention Section, in the special unit “Renea”.

Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha has obtained the investigative file against them, in which, following investigative actions carried out, a technical forensic examination of the mobile phones seized from suspects E.P. and I.T. was conducted. Among other findings relevant to the investigation, communications were identified containing content related to the organization and operation of gambling activities.

Among other things, saved conversations conducted on the “WhatsApp” messaging application were identified between a police officer and the civilian I.T., containing content related to the organization and operation of gambling activities, sports betting, and football matches.

Excerpts from the messages:

Police officer with initials E.P.: Listen, on the site where you are the manager. Besides the part that is 50–50, there is also a percentage for turnover and 20% for profits.

Civilian with initials I.T.: You will give me 405, I’ll send him 200, keep mine since it’s yours, because you took 200 from me for the coupon. It’s 932 in total.

Police officer with initials E.P.: He wants 466, that guy.

Civilian with initials I.T.: Ok.

Police officer with initials E.P.: You and I have 233 each.

Civilian with initials I.T.: Hey brother, did you talk about the money?

Police officer with initials E.P.: Yes, I did, he’ll bring it tomorrow. It’s fine, otherwise I’ll give it to you myself, don’t worry.
