Landslide on the Elbasan–Librazhd–Qafë Thanë road, the ARA begins emergency interventions

The Albanian Road Authority has begun intensive work on several fronts, aiming to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Work is currently underway to remove large amounts of soil from both sides of the existing road, in order to clear the terrain where probes will be installed for a detailed geological study and technical assessment of the area following the landslide.

At the same time, with increased mobilization of heavy machinery, operations have started to regulate the flow of the Shkumbin River. The river’s course is being redirected to the left bank to create the necessary space for the construction of an alternative road along the railway line.

After the completion of the geological study, the implementation project for the new Elbasan–Librazhd–Qafë Thanë road axis will be revised.

The Albanian Road Authority will continue to provide real-time updates on the progress of the works and further measures to be undertaken.
